Wastewater Laborer / Operator-in-Training Location: Ambridge Municipal Authority, Ambridge, PA About us: The Ambridge Municipal Authority (AMA) is an operating Municipal Authority serving the Borough of Ambridge and several surrounding municipalities. The AMA is responsible for daily activities in regards to the operation and maintenance of its sanitary sewer and wastewater facilities. Such activities, duties, and responsibilities are directed by the AMA Board and Chief Plant Operator. The AMA is a small, close-knit group which depends on one another in a team setting to ensure the proper execution of the operations regarding wastewater management. Job Details: Full-time, 8-hour shifts. Shifts 7a – 3p and 3p – 11p alternating weeks. Weekends/Holidays availability required. Pay: Laborer rate of $27.33/hour until Operator Licensing obtained. Pay is estimated to increase 15.5% above current Laborer’s rate once Operator License obtained. Overtime work as needed. Position covered by a Union Collective Bargaining Agreement. Primary Role: Prior to Operator Licensing, you will assist the Operators in all tasks regarding the operation of the Sanitary Sewer System, its Plant, and Pump Stations. You will also assist in physical tasks including but not limited to operating equipment, fixing damaged sewer piping in the system, and maintaining all AMA property. You will also be expected to train toward becoming a Licensed Operator. As an Operator, you would perform visual inspections of the Plant and Pump Station process control systems and make decisions which comply with the AMA SOP & DEP regulations. You must continue all Laborer duties as well. Qualifications: No experience required in wastewater management. Prior laborer experience preferred. High School Diploma/GED. Knowledge of construction equipment (preferred). Ability to work in all weather conditions for extended periods. Ability to work on feet for extended periods as well as traverse different terrains, work in confined spaces, climb ladders, and handle other tasks physical in nature. Must be able to lift and carry over 50 pounds. Must be available to be called to work in the case of an emergency. Must have reliable transportation and a valid driver’s license. Must be team-oriented by nature. Must pass a background check. Willingness to obtain any and all vaccinations as required. Must be willing AND able to acquire a Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator License as issued by the DEP. Training will require mid-level mathematics capabilities (i.e. algebraic and geometrical) or ability to learn. Essential Job Functions: Perform heavy physical labor including: lifting/carrying over 50 pounds, climbing/descending ladders, working in confined spaces, working in harsh weather, bending/stooping/kneeling for extended and/or repeated periods, digging, traversing difficult terrain, and completing any other such physical activity as needed. Work around sanitary sewer waste is required. Operate construction-grade machinery as well as power tools such as drills and saws. Understand and implement health and safety regulations and procedures. Communicate effectively and professionally with the public to answer job-specific questions. This includes in person, on the phone, or via electronic communication methods. Clean and repair equipment and any and all items relating to the cleanliness of the AMA facilities. Take/pass classes aimed at training to become a fully licensed Plant Operator. Work on-the-job with Chief Plant Operator for additional training requirements to become a fully licensed Plant Operator. Read, understand, and follow rules and regulations. Provide upkeep for all Plant and Pump Stations properties including landscaping needs. Report to work on time and demonstrate good attendance. Work within a team-setting atmosphere and take direction from the Chief Plant Operator. Work overtime as needed including weekends and holidays. Abide by rules and regulations set forth by the AMA Board of Directors, as well as any federal, state, or local regulations regarding safety and wastewater management. Any administrative duties such as but not limited to answering the phone, responding to emails, completing forms/paperwork, and filing paperwork. Follow acquired essential job functions once Operator’s license is obtained. Maintain Operator’s licensing through continuous training classes as required by the DEP.
