The Borough of Baldwin, Allegheny County, is accepting applications for the position of full-time entry-level police officer through Friday, April 29, 2022, 4:00 pm at the Municipal Building, 3344 Churchview Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15227.


Baldwin is located 4-7 miles south of the City of Pittsburgh, 5.44 square miles, with a population of approximately 20,000. The department is budgeted for 24 sworn full time officers with a salary range of $69,265 (1st year) to $98,950 (5th year).


Candidates must meet the following requirements:

  • Be at least 21 years of age at the time of application.

  • Possess a high school diploma or a graduate equivalency diploma (GED).

  • Be a United States citizen.

  • Be physically and mentally fit to perform the full duties of a police officer.

  • Possess a valid motor vehicle operator’s license and be eligible to legally operate a motor vehicle in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.

  • Meet either Tier 1 or Tier 2 of the educational/ certification qualifications listed below:


Tier 1 – Be Pennsylvania Act 120 or have successfully completed training and passed the final exam. Successful completion of Act 120 must be achieved prior to the certification of the eligibility listing. Candidate must possess a minimum of an associate degree from an accredited college or university at the time of application.


Tier 2 – Possess a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university at the time of application.


The physical agility is scheduled for Tuesday, May 3, 2022, to begin at 9:00 AM at the Allegheny County Police Academy, 700 W. Ridge Road, Allison Park, PA 15101. All candidates must arrive prior to 8:45 AM and bring photo ID.


The written examination is scheduled for Thursday, May 5, 2022, at Baldwin Borough Municipal Building, 3344 Churchview Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15227.

Testing begins at 6:00 pm. All candidates must arrive by 5:45 PM and bring photo ID.


The Civil Service Commission anticipates the following schedule for the hiring process:

  • Oral Examinations (if qualified) May 25 & 26, 2022

  • Background Investigations (if qualified) June & July 2022

  • Certification of List, August 2022

  • Borough Council can act after a certified list is provided.

  • A Certified Civil Service list is valid for 1 year. Candidates are encouraged to reapply for future tests.


A non-refundable application fee is $50.00 is due upon submittal of completed application.
