Public Notice is hereby given that the Borough of Plum will be conducting an examination for full-time police officers for the Plum Borough Police Department. The starting annual base salary for a full-time police officer is set at $64,604.80 for 2023. Applications are being accepted online at https://link.plumboro.com/apply

The police department expects to hire as many as five officers from this eligibility list due to retirements, promotions and military commitments. Borough officers enjoy an impressive benefits package and an excellent salary, as well as a 20-air mile radius residency requirement (from the Municipal Center). In 2022, the average salary for a senior patrolman was $114,000. The department currently consists of 28 full time officers including the Chief of Police, Assistant Chief of Police, 4 Patrol Sergeants, 2 Corporals, 2 Detectives, 1 traffic safety officer and 17 patrol officers.

Plum Borough is located in Allegheny County. It’s the largest borough within the county and the second largest in the state of Pennsylvania. Plum Borough has a population of approximately 30,000 residents.  In January the police department and borough offices moved into a new $20+ million-dollar Municipal Complex that has an in-house, employee only, state-of-the-art fitness center & gym as well as indoor firing range.

 

The application deadline is 11:59pm on Sunday May 7, 2023. The written exam is scheduled for May 13, 2023 at 0900 hours at the Plum Municipal Center. The physical agility test is scheduled for May 30, 2023 at 0900 hours at the Allegheny County Police Academy in North Park.

The following requirements shall apply to all applicants:

  1. Applicants must be a citizen of the United States.

  2. Applicants must be 21 years of age at time of application.

  3. Applicants shall possess a diploma from an accredited high school or general education diploma (G.E.D.)

  4. Applicants shall be physically and mentally fit to perform the full duties of a municipal police officer.

  5. Applicants shall possess a valid driver’s license.

  6. Applicants may be enrolled in a Municipal Police Officers Act 120 Certification Program at time of application but must have successfully completed the Act 120 certification by time of appointment.
