Assistant Café Manager
Responsible for the day-to-day operation of The Café at the Frick. This includes monitoring menu items, maintaining the highest level of customer service, and ensuring that food and liquor costs are maintained within acceptable margins. The Café Assistant Manager provides visitors to the Frick and guests to the café with a superior experience by providing excellent customer service.

Reports to: Café Manager
Hours: 35 hours per week; must be available weekends and some evenings
Status: Full time, exempt with benefits
Salary: $33,797-$42,246, based on experience and qualifications
Café Responsibilities:
(40%) Leadership
- By example, will lead the effort to create an experience that supports the mission of the Frick and ensures the highest guest satisfaction.
- Serve as an ambassador of the Museum and the Café. As an ambassador for the Museum, must be fully knowledgeable of the Museum’s programs and offerings to engage confidently with visitors. As an ambassador of the Café, will proactively and enthusiastically share the Café offerings as they train café employees, and engage with Frick Staff and the general public.
- Responsible for training and supervision of all café staff including training in – Café POS system, customer service, open/close procedures, telephone etiquette, membership sales, exhibition information.
- With the Café Manager, assists in the hiring process, managing the Café operations and administration, and works to maintain high standards of excellence.
(35%) Hands-On
- Covers any call offs or breaks and works on café floor as needed.
- Trouble shoots NCR Silver and other FOH and BOH equipment
- Plan and direct food preparation and culinary activities
- Modify menus and/or create new ones that meet quality standards
- Maintaining the BOH and surrounding areas in conditions that meet health code regulations
- Prepare meals and complete prep support as needed
- Assist in register programming, end of month reporting, and inventory
- Monitors all equipment to ensure all is in proper working order
- Ensures that all Café staff comply with the Café food safe food handling manual and all Health Department regulations.
- Handle visitor inquiries, complaints, and requests, and inform the Café Manager of such.
- Oversee food cart (seasonal) and develop specialty menu offerings
- Manages catering orders and arrange for drop off/pick up for internal meetings
- Collaborates with the Events Team to ensure that the Café operations don’t interfere with scheduled events
- Must be Serve Safe Certified and RAMP certified.
- Handles other duties as requested by management.
(25%) Administrative
- Maintains a safe, clean, and respectful working environment and promotes positive working relationships.
- Ensures safe cash handling procedures are followed
- Print and post current menus and promotions in the café and on designated menu boards
- Update NCR Silver to reflect current menu offerings with correct pricing
- With Café manager works stays up to date on the newest regulations and requirements for the PCLB and Health Department
- Works with the Café Manager to create new specials, drink specials, special promotions, and pop-up events.
- With Café Manger helps to develop menu items, paying attention to cost, seasonal availability, dining trends, and dietary restrictions
- Be aware of current and developing trends in the restaurant industry
Qualifications:

- Availability to work weekends and some evenings is essential.
- High School diploma required, Bachelor’s degree or, equivalent preferred.
- The successful candidate will be an enthusiastic, energetic individual with professional manner who enjoys working with people.
- Must have at least three years of hospitality/restaurant experience.
- Able to multi-task, meet deadlines, and work well in a fast-paced work environment.
- Be an innovative, problem solver, remain calm under pressure; and be capable of overcoming issues as they arise.
- Must possess strong oral and written communication skills.
- The ability to communicate effectively with a wide variety of people is essential.
- Must be proficient in all Microsoft Office applications including Outlook, Word, Power Point, and Excel.
- Prior management experience a plus.
- Must be Serve Safe Certified and RAMP certified.
- Must have a valid driver’s license.
- Clearance of a background check.
