COMMUNICATIONS OFFICER
Bethel Park Police Department
Performs technical work dispatching police, fire, EMS, emergency services personnel and equipment usually in response to emergency situations; does related work as required.
KSAs
Thorough knowledge of the methods of operating the communication system, radio and teletype procedures, geography of the Municipality and location of important buildings.
Ability to type at a reasonable rate of speed, speak distinctly, deal courteously with the public under stressful conditions, establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates and the public, and multi-task.
Skill in the operation of radio, telecommunications, computer terminal, data entry and general office equipment.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Associated Public Safety Communications Officers (APCO)
EMD – Emergency Medical Dispatch with AED and CPR Certifications
PEMA – Police-Fire-EMS-Dispatch Certifications
Computer Aided Dispatch Training
Possession of appropriate certification through the State Police computer system for the State of Pennsylvania
J-NET – Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Justice Network
NIMS – FEMA – Emergency Management Institute
