Director of Communications and Development
The Norwin School District is seeking a Director of Communications and Development. This is a full-time, 12-month position reporting directly to the Superintendent that provides leadership and direction for accurate, transparent, and consistent communications with all internal and external stakeholders.
The Director of Communications and Development will use appropriate communication methods and tools to promote an understanding and appreciation of the District’s efforts to provide students with the best possible education, celebrate the achievements of students and staff, provide useful information to the community, and to improve public perceptions of the District.
This fast-paced team-oriented position requires meeting strict timelines and contributing to and overseeing the District’s communications utilizing effective writing, editing, and graphic design skills, including the use of photography, print, social media, website design, mobile app, and other digital communications consistent with the District’s Communications Plan.
Additionally, this position will support the District’s development goals in bringing new forms of recurring revenue to the District through sponsorships, advertising, and grants.
The individual in this position will also serve as Executive Director for the nonprofit organization known as the Norwin School District Community Foundation.
The ideal candidate will have:
- Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in communication, journalism, marketing, or related area.
- Minimum three (3) years of experience preferred in the following areas: directing organizational public relations, community relations, media relations, government relations, and legislative activity. Experience in schools and/or public sector is a plus.
- Experience preferred in marketing/advertising, print operations, publications management, website management, digital communication, and fundraising.
- Evidence of technological expertise, including social media and email management and/or marketing.
- Ability to simplify complex issues and ideas and clearly present them to targeted stakeholders.
- Awareness and utilization of community resources.
- Outstanding written and oral communication skills.
- Ability to consistently demonstrate and model positive attitude and behaviors.
- A strong desire to work in a collaborative office environment, employing a growth mindset and working effectively as part of an administrative team.
- Experience with budget development and management.
- Proven relationship-building skills with developing and maintaining excellent working relationships within an organization.
- Ability to work independently, efficiently, and thoroughly to prioritize and complete tasks within strict deadlines.
- Fundraising and/or development experience, including experience utilizing donor management software, is preferred.
