This is a full-time position with an anticipated variable work schedule, which includes a variable work agreement with overtime after 40 hours per week.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
MENTAL HEALTH COUNSELOR I
Master's degree from an accredited college or university in counseling, marriage and family therapy, psychology, social work or closely related academic field; OR an equivalent combination of education and clinical experience at or above a master's degree and experience as described above.
This position requires applicants hold a clinical license in the State of Nevada as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Licensed Psychologist, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist or Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor OR be licensed as an intern in the State of Nevada as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Licensed Psychologist, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist or Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor within three months of hire.
MENTAL HEALTH COUNSELOR II
Master's degree from an accredited college or university in counseling, marriage and family therapy, psychology, social work or closely related academic field and two years of post-master's degree professional mental health counseling experience; OR an equivalent combination of education and clinical experience at or above a Master's degree and experience as described.
Experience in a child welfare setting is required as is licensure in the State of Nevada as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Licensed Psychologist, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist or Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor.
MENTAL HEALTH COUNSELOR I & II Special Requirements
- A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant.

DCFS LOCATION DESCRIPTIONS
PSYCHIATRIC RESIDENTIAL TREATMENT FACILITY (PRTF) at the Enterprise Campus, located in Reno, Nevada, provides mental health treatment for children ages 6 to 17 and is a 24 hour/7 day a week residential treatment setting. The program uses nationally recognized models of care, including a Psychoeducational model, the Trauma Informed Care Model and Recovery Model. PRTF Enterprise also incorporates Aggression Replacement Training into its philosophy of care.
COMMUNITY SERVICES PROGRAMS located in both Reno and Las Vegas, NV: Early Childhood Mental Health Services (ECMHS) provides clinical and targeted case management services to children from birth to age 8 and their families with mental health and/or behavioral health issues. Children's Clinical Services (CCS) provides clinical and targeted case management services to youth ages 6 to 18 and their families with mental health and/or behavioral health issues. Mobile Crisis Response Team (MCRT) provides short term clinical and targeted case management services to youth birth to age 18.
CALIENTE YOUTH CENTER (CYC) located in Caliente, NV
This position is located in Caliente, Nevada at Caliente Youth Center (CYC). Caliente Youth Center (CYC), established in 1962, is a staff-secure facility located in Caliente, Nevada. The facility includes seven separate housing units for youth committed to the state for correctional care: five units for males and two for females. CYC has the capacity to serve up to 140 youth ages 12 to 18. For over 50 years, the Caliente Youth Center has assisted in helping Nevada's at-risk youth change their course. CYC's mission is to promote positive value change to the youth served through a balanced, team-centered and strength-based approach. Nestled up against the mountains, CYC provides a unique atmosphere for correctional care. On site, in addition to the seven separate housing units, there is an administration building, an infirmary, a full-service kitchen and laundry, maintenance, an accredited high school, a gymnasium, a football/soccer field, a baseball/softball diamond, and a workout room for aerobic, weightlifting, and cardio fitness.
DESERT WILLOW TREATMENT CENTER (DWTC) located in Las Vegas, NV. DWTC is a 20-bed psychiatric hospital accredited by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Health Care Organizations that provides mental health treatment for children age 12 to 17. Desert Willow Treatment Center (DWTC) operates 7 days per week, 24 hours per day with three shifts. Due to this there are a variety of available full-time work schedules.
POSITION DESCRIPTION:
MENTAL HEALTH COUNSELOR I
Mental Health Counselors provide counseling, case management, direct clinical services, community and home-based services, and behavioral and human services to mentally ill, developmentally disabled and/or emotionally disturbed clients in an outpatient, residential, community or similar setting. The Mental Health Counselors complete risk and/or suicide assessments, completes documents and follows reporting chain for these incidents as needed or requested by youth, family, therapist, or facility. Evaluates for and makes referrals as needed for psychological testing, psychiatric evaluations, substance abuse treatments, other specialized programming that requires a clinical referral. Provides weekly updates for the committed to change program on each youth on caseload. Participates in biweekly admissions meeting and provides input on mental health needs of youth pending admission. Sees youth as regularly as indicated on the treatment plan and at the request of the youth, family and/or facility as clinically indicated. Provides contacts that both meet the needs of the children and families served and provide effective interventions resulting in positive outcomes. Collateral activities support treatment needs.

The Division of Child and Family Services (DCFS) is recruiting for a Mental Health Counselor 1 underfilling for a Mental Health Counselor 2 in our Children's Clinical Services Program located in Reno, Sparks Nevada. Mental Health Counselors conduct appraisals and assessments through interviews with the client, family members and community systems, personal observations, communication with clinicians and representatives of community agencies and organizations, and utilization of standardized techniques to determine client eligibility for services and appropriate course of treatment at the least restrictive level possible; conduct or participate in treatment planning by attending treatment team meetings in which client goals are determined, and appropriate strategies and plans are developed and modified as necessary; coordinate and integrate services among members of treatment teams and client support systems; and monitor treatment plans and evaluate effectiveness.

- The Nevada DIVISION OF CHILD AND FAMILY SERVICES (DCFS) has career opportunities for Mental Health Counselors to work in our Child Welfare system. These positions are assigned to our Ely, Elko, Winnemucca, Fernley, Fallon, Yerington, Carson and Pahrump offices. Candidates interested in other rural Nevada locations are encouraged to also apply, as other locations may be considered. Mental Health Counselors provide Intensive Family Services (IFS) to families involved with the child welfare system in rural Nevada. Staff provide in-home, family centered, intensive services including counseling, skill-building, supportive services, advocacy, mental health assessments for children and their parents and clinical case management to complex, high risk families. Mental Health Counselors with IFS provide diagnosis to children in custody for access to services; higher level of care; crisis intervention; placement disruption services; and case consultation services for other DCFS program staff. IFS does not replicate existing services and is not considered a mental health program, but rather a clinical child welfare program designed to intervene quickly with families where safety threats have been identified and removal of children is imminent without effective preventative services. IFS prioritize efforts to enhance deficient caregiver protective capacities to mitigate safety factors. Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training.
These positions require licensure or certification in the State of Nevada as a Mental Health Counselor, Certified Counselor, Social Worker, and/or Marriage and Family Therapist.
- The Nevada Division of Child and Family Services (DCFS) is recruiting for a Mental Health Counselor II to be located in Reno, NV. This position actively participates on a multidisciplinary team providing clinical care and treatment to children and adolescents with behavioral and emotional disturbances in a 24 hour/7 day a week Psychiatric Residential Treatment Facility (PRTF). PRTF Enterprise serve children between 6-17 years of age. Youth served are designated as Severely Emotionally Disturbed (SED) and have experienced multiple failed placements. Youth placed exhibit significant behavioral challenges including physical and verbal aggression, non-compliance, challenges to authority figures, school problems (academic and behavioral), peer and social difficulties, and family issues.
Mental Health Counselors provide individual, family, and group therapy utilizing evidence-based treatment practices and complete assessments, person-centered treatment plans, and Prior Authorizations for services. In addition, Mental Health Counselors act as the Primary Behavioral Health Provider for assigned youth and coordinate Child and Family Team meetings, referrals, discharge planning, and overall youth clinical needs. They discuss youths’ treatment at interdisciplinary staffings, integrate and analyze information from all available sources, document quality of care, ensure information is available to other members of the treatment team by completing required forms and report and maintain documentation to ensure compliance with established laws, regulations, policies and standards of care. The Mental Health Counselor will need to be familiar with the behavior modification model used in the treatment facility and work collaboratively with treatment home staff and nurses to meet youth needs. Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently after training. Clinical experience with children and/or adolescents is preferred. Licensure or Post-Graduate Intern approval in clinical fields of MFT, CPC, or LCSW is preferred.
Mental Health Counselors agree to work a variable work schedule in order to accommodate the needs of the youth and families to be seen outside of school/work hours. This position works four 10-hour days Tuesday-Friday.
