Job Description
A Plastics Recycling Machine Operator is reliable and able to work with attention to detail and safety standards. On-the-job training is a good way to discover how to do the job better. The ideal candidate should have a willingness to learn and improve. Utilizing, setting up, and operating different automatic and semi-automatic machines used in the production of the company's products. Candidates monitor their work continually to verify accuracy in production. Candidates must be responsible for the overall operation of potentially large -scale machinery including actions such as loading and feeding materials for processing, adjusting settings, performing minor repairs, and continually inspecting products.
Candidates complete job tracking paperwork and enter results into data bases. Additionally, candidates work from process sheets or written/verbal instructions to perform production tasks. Candidates verify accuracy of results against specific standards. Being a team player is essential since all tasks will require close collaboration with co-workers. The goal will be to ensure that production procedures will be carried out smoothly to maximize efficiency and profits.
Duties
- Become operationally proficient on Plastic Recycling Machinery and meet basic production standards and quality measures
- Accurately load material into equipment, complete machine set-ups and operate equipment for 8 hours of continuous work
- Will have experience and knowledge to perform tasks associated with operating plastic granulators, shredders, and extruders for reprocessing plastic regrind
- Operate sit-down forklifts and pallet jacks to unload and move various items through the warehouse
- Understand and adhere to all internal workflow processes, interdepartmental dependencies, and procedures
- Set-up machines (calibration, cleaning etc.) to start a fresh production cycle
- Adhere to health and safety regulations (e.g. requires use of protective gear)
- Control and adjust machine settings
- Feed raw materials into semi-automated machines
- Inspect parts with precision measuring tools
- Periodically test operation of machines for any issues
- Fix minor mechanical issues that might occur during the shift
- Perform various workplace hygiene and clean-up duties
- Demonstrate a strong customer service mindset
- Check production output to spot any machine-related mistakes or flaws
- Keep records of approved and defective units for final products
- Maintain activity logs
Qualifications
- Education: No High School diploma required
- Basic ability to communicate, both verbally and in writing, using the English language
- Basic math skills (counting, addition, subtraction, multiplication)
- Basic computer skills; familiar with the keyboard; opening, closing, and saving documents
- Recycling workers must have physical stamina and demonstrate the ability to lift a minimum of 70 pounds regularly, and team lift to 150 pounds infrequently, combined with regular duties throughout the day
- Previous experience in plastic recycling operations or other related fields
- Familiarity with hand tools and production equipment
- Strong troubleshooting and critical thinking skills
- Ability to handle physical workload
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment
- Follow all company safety policies and procedures to ensure a safe working environment
- Must be able to perform physical tasks for extended periods of time including standing, walking, climbing, bending, pushing, pulling, and twisting
- Willing and able to prioritize workplace safety and adhere to all safe grooming requirements necessary for a recycling environment
- Pays close attention to details to eliminate hazards or prevent accidents
- Ability to push, pull, grasp, and manipulate equipment by using hands throughout the work hours
- Exhibit good job performance and behavior as measured through indicators such as teamwork, attendance, quality, and productivity
Pay, Benefits & Work Schedule
$16.50/hr for 1st shift
Available Schedules: 7:30am – 4:30pm Mon-Fri (one-hour lunch)
