Facility Engineer

The Pittsburgh District of the US Army Corps of Engineers seeks Civil and Mechanical Engineers to work in the Operations and Maintenance Department as a facility engineer.  The position is responsible for long and short-range plans for major maintenance activities at 23 lock and dam facilities and 16 flood reduction management dams in the Pittsburgh District. 

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Preparing construction contracts for maintenance, repair, and fabrication of major project components.

  • Preparing contracts for equipment purchases and purchase of supplies

  • Preparing contracts for services such as elevator inspection, repair of load handling equipment, inspection of pressure vessels, etc…

  • Development and planning of major repair efforts at our facilities.  

  • Performing field inspections and investigations of projects and major components to determine its condition and required maintenance. 

  • Reviewing construction and maintenance contracts to assure that operability, maintenance, and safety considerations have been incorporated into the design.

  • Developing well-defined justifications and consequences for proposed major maintenance budget packages.

 

Relevant Knowledge & Experience:

  • Ability to develop maintenance and repair contracts for project components such as: residential roof replacement, residential window replacement, mechanical items (HVAC, compressors, elevators), residential fence installation, asphalt pavement repair, etc…

  • Knowledge of hydraulic steel structure fabrication and inspection
